Brown basmati rice is similar to white basmati, but only has its outer shell removed. This means it contains lots of juicy nutrients that are often lost during the process of white rice.

To cook, make sure to rinse the brown basmati rice beforehand to remove any starch and avoid the rice getting clumpy as it cooks. Its recommended you use two parts water to every one part of rice. So, once you’ve got your measurements down, add the rice to a pot of water and bring to the boil. Because brown rice is whole-grain, it’ll take a little longer to cook than white rice, so you can expect to wait around 45 minutes before it’s lovely and fluffy. Serve alongside curries, vegetables or mix into a nutritious grain bowl for an energy-packed lunch.
