Star Anise

This pretty star-shaped spice is native to China and Vietnam and is part of the magnolia family. Its flavours are a unique blend of fennel seed, liquorice and clove. It’s a bit of an acquired taste, however, aniseed star is best used in Chinese dishes and produces some beautiful aromas once cooked down. It also makes a good table decoration.
